In May, my mum came to visit me in Shanghai. As we\u00a0had visited a little bit of\u00a0China during her first trip,\u00a0I wanted to show her other Asian countries. I chose Japan. We spent 3 days in Kyoto<\/strong> and 2 days in Kinosaki<\/strong>.
\nI wanted to visit Kyoto<\/strong> for a long time: for its traditional characters, its temples and gastronomy food.
\nOur guesthouse, found on airbnb was in the neighborhood of Kokusikaikan<\/strong>. A lovely place, very quiet but well served by subway and with lot of \u00a0restaurants around.<\/p>\n

\nOur\u00a0guesthouse<\/p>\n

\nSurprise dinner. We just randomly pointed to the menu items since everything was in Japanese and no one spoke English.<\/p>\n

\nFor our first day, we decided to go to Nishiki Market<\/strong>, a fabulous place! You can find everything there: Japanese snacks, souvenirs for tourists, green tea, sake but especially food. You can taste everything and try all these new flavours. We enjoyed a lot!<\/p>\n

\nI\u00a0took forever to choose 3 adorable little balls dolls from all these little\u00a0ones…<\/p>\n

\nWe tasted everything! Pepper, anchovies, radishes… everything was so familiar and yet so different!<\/p>\n

\nAfter the feast of Nishiki market, we decided to visit the Daigo-ji temple<\/strong>. We saw a lovely picture of it on internet.\u00a0It was in a very big\u00a0park.<\/p>\n

\nAt the end of the park, we found the little red temple that charmed us. It is a red colour highlight among the green trees. The view was absolutely gorgeous. Huge carp swim lazily in the water. We remained beside the lake \u00a0contemplating the beautiful scene eating\u00a0almonds purchased in the market.<\/p>\n

\nBehind the temple and everywhere in the park, there are small shaded corners. The ground is covered with moss and the sound of water makes us want to stay there as long as possible.<\/p>\n

\nAfter this delicious moment, we had a break\u00a0in a yakitori restaurant.
\nBarbecue\u00a0leeks and beers are perfects!<\/p>\n

\nThe day after we went\u00a0to the Bamboo Forest Arashiyama<\/strong>.\u00a0A beautiful place. There was magic in the air …<\/p>\n

\nThere were cute garden and beautiful places that we can visit in the Bamboo forest.<\/p>\n

\nWe walked so much so we got exhausted. Udon noodle and tempura are a perfect snack!<\/p>\n

\nWe decided\u00a0to leave Arashiyama<\/strong> with\u00a0the \u00ab\u00a0romantic mountain train\u00a0\u00bb that I suspected of being a boring tourist attraction. But my mother insisted, so we tried. No regrets, we discovered magnificent landscapes! Green\u00a0river runs through mountains covered with pine trees. We\u00a0would like to stop and took some time to admire all these beauties but the small mountain train\u00a0goes very fast…<\/p>\n

\nAfter the Bamboo forest, we decided to visit Gion, a traditional neighborhood located in the heart of Kyoto. They say you can see geishas. We didn’t have\u00a0the luck but the architecture of the houses are very nice.\u00a0These are essentially tea houses.<\/p>\n

\nWhen we came to Japan, my mother had a very specific idea in mind: try\u00a0Kobe beef. It is at Gion that we found a restaurant specialized in Kobe meat.\u00a0Mom was\u00a0happy. The meat was\u00a0very tender and delicious. I took the scallop and they were amazing.<\/p>\n

\nOn the\u00a0third day,\u00a0we decided to leave to go to\u00a0Kinosaki<\/strong>,\u00a0a small town 2 hours by train from Kyoto<\/strong> and famous for its hot springs. I booked a luxury ryokan there (traditional Japanese hotel). Airbnb, it’s great for cheap\u00a0budget but after Kyoto we wanted\u00a0to\u00a0treat ourselves nicely.
