In France, we have this very cute tradition : On the 1st of May, we give to those we love a little bouquet of Lily-of-the-Valley to wish them happiness and good luck in celebration of the arrival of spring.
In Paris, everywhere in the streets, people are selling this lovely flower which smells very nice.

Since LaPtiteLu is French and she really loves you, here is a big bouquet to wish you happiness and good luck!

Do you know where this tradition comes from?
Apparently it dates from the Renaissance in 1560 when Charles IX and his mother Catherine de Medicis were visiting  the French area “Drôme”, the Chevalier Louis Girard Maisonforte offers to the king a little bouquet of Lyli-of-the-Valley from his garden.
The king was so pleased that he decided to offer a bouquet of Lily-of-the-Valley to every ladies of his court every spring.
Louis Girard thank you! You had a great idea 😉 Of course, this is a legend and there are a lot of other stories about the origin of this tradition but it is the one I like the most.
